1) I don't know if it's clear or not. I was in a pretty bad mood when painting this. It's supposed to be a flying manta ray with the whole body as an island. It supports a whole ecosystem.
2) I think I need improvement on my painting techniques, because everything seems so MESSY and I can't separate areas that need clarification. Also, light direction.
Lol yeah, manta rays are awesome~ There's not enough love for them I swear. The turtle thing has been done like since the beginning of time. >.> But turtles are adorable too, so I'm not really complaining.
I felt like I was there when I first focused on the image...maybe its the Sandalwood . I really like the color transition with warm and bright colors on top going to cool and dark colors to the bottom. I think you can make some awesome sketches from speed runs with the way you're painting!
Aside from that...my amateur advice for light direction is to start with your brush from the origination of light and do linear lines toward the object you are going to radiate/shade...your imagination can do the rest
I dunno, but maybe you could try adding on details using a smaller brush? I think just define the shadows and highlights more perhaps?
But overall it's pretty awesome~ (pruss I love the fact that it's manta rays and not the usual tortoise/turtle
Yeah, I should probably define it more... okay, thanks!
And yes, turtles are so overdone on the whole floating island thing, I think it's because of Discworld. :/
MANTA RAYS ARE AWESOME.

Manta rays have floppy wings.
So, I heard you're going into art now?
What exactly are you doing right now?
entering degree for illustration this fall.
Can't wait! So what are you going to do? Any ideas?
Work hard!! Then maybe we can do some collabs together or smth.

I should try some speed painting, but need to get an idea of what to paint first.
Some advice is better than no advice, and others always see things that you don't. SO THANK YOU. <3
